THE Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) has reaffirmed its support for President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the ruling ZANU PF party, urging Zimbabweans to disregard calls for demonstrations by what they described as “rogue elements.”
Speaking at a press conference in Masvingo on Friday, ZNLWVA leaders denounced planned protests and called for continued national unity and development.
“As Veterans of the liberation struggle we are strongly in support of our President, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa who is our patron, the First Secretary of our party ZANU PF and also the Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, we are behind him and his administration,” ZNLWVA National Chairperson, Cde Cephas Ncube said.
“Here in Zimbabwe, we have peace and we are saying as Zimbabweans we must maintain that peace, continuing with developmental programmes. We are here to tell our fellow citizens to stay away from the so called demonstrations and focus on their day to day activities that bring bread on their tables for their families.”
Provincial leaders of the association supported the calls for unity and peace in the country.
“We are behind the message delivered by our Chairman Cde Ncube. We are saying as Zimbabweans, let us not be influenced by rogue elements who are beyond our borders yet calling us to demonstrate against our government which has implemented a lot of programmes to develop our nation,” ZNLWVA Chairperson for Masvingo Province, Cde Paul Makuni said.
“There is peace in Zimbabwe and we continue to develop our nation hence we will not be influenced by those bent on causing alarm and fear to our people. We continue to support our President who was voted into office by all Zimbabweans,” ZNLWVA Chairperson for the Midlands Province, Cde Morris Maoneke said.
“As Zimbabweans let us continue with our day to day activities on March 31, those calling for demonstrations are rogue elements because if they were genuine why are they running away from the country,” ZNLWVA Chairperson for Bulawayo province, Cde Golden Ndlovu said.
The government has also issued a stern warning on individuals seeking to cause alarm and disturbances in the country, saying they will face the full wrath of the law.
