The world is witnessing a ground breaking sports event as 120 nations converge here for the Phygital Games, a unique blend of physical and digital competition.
Vice President, General Retired Dr. Constantino Chiwenga, will officially open the Games on Wednesday after being invited by the Russian government.
After witnessing the enthralling group stages of digital warfare and laser tag at the Kazan Tennis Academy, Vice President Chiwenga expressed admiration for the vision behind the big event.
“The games here in Kazan which are going to be completed by many countries and these are the digital and cyber games for the first time, and this is what I was invited to come and officiate. The Russian Federation and Zimbabwe relations dates back to the days times of the Soviet Union, when they stood with us for the liberation of Zimbabwe until we got our independence in 1980. We must also remember that the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China have always been with Zimbabwe during the most difficult times,” he said.
The Games of the Future offer a diverse competition programme, featuring physical football, basketball, racing, skateboarding, and more. These innovative events leverage cutting-edge technologies like e-sports, robotics, augmented and virtual reality, information technology, and artificial intelligence, creating a truly immersive and engaging experience for athletes and spectators alike. Over 120 countries are participating in the Games, including Russia, China, Peru, Iran, Philippines, and South Africa.
This diverse participation highlights the global appeal of this new sports format and its potential to bridge cultural divides. The Games of the Future mark a significant milestone in the evolution of sports, showcasing the power of technology to enhance competition, inclusivity, and global partnerships.
Vice President Chiwenga’s visit also extended to the renowned Kazan helicopter manufacturers, fostering potential economic partnerships.
This aligns with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ongoing efforts to attract international investment and bolster Zimbabwe’s economic ties.
