VP Chiwenga advances to second stage of Catholic St Joseph Guild

Story by John Nhandara

VICE President General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga has been initiated into the second stage of the St Joseph Guild of the Catholic Church, signifying a deepened commitment to his faith through prayer, education and fellowship.

The Vice President was among 66 Catholics initiated into various Catholic guilds at a special Holy Mass held at St. Gerard’s Parish in Harare.

Acting parish priest of St Gerard’s parish, Father Victor Bushu and catechist, Mr Alois Makwembere say the development follows Vice President Chiwenga’s earlier induction into the Guild, with the move representing his progressive level of dedication to spiritual growth and community service within the Church.

“He is leading by example, following St Joseph who fled to Egypt, taking care and securing the safety of the holy family. He is a God fearing man. The VP wants to stay close to Christ and to a saint of his choice St Joseph, who was a God fearing father and husband,” Father Bushu said.

“The VP chose St Joseph to guild fostering his personal relationship with God and the church,” Catechist, Mr Makwembere added.

The initiation of members into different stages of Catholic guilds is a structured process in the Roman Catholic Church intended to help parishioners grow spiritually and actively participate in the Church’s charitable and community work.

The St Joseph Guild, like other similar Catholic Guilds, focuses on nurturing its members’ faith through structured practices and community building.
