Victoria Falls teen breaks into music scene with powerful debut

Story by Tichaona Kurewa

FROM the heart of Zimbabwe’s adventure capital, Victoria Falls, a fresh and soulful voice is beginning to resonate across the nation’s music scene.

Naishe Rowland Makaure, an energetic 18-year-old and recent Upper Sixth pupil, has released his debut single, “Enda”. Though young, Naishe’s artistry is mature, with his music already stirring attention and emotion among listeners.

Describing himself as a sociable individual who enjoys outings and all things artistic, Naishe’s love for music has long been a deep-seated passion. Currently pursuing software engineering at a local institute, he is equally driven to contribute to Zimbabwe’s tech landscape while nurturing his musical ambitions.

Although “Enda” is not drawn from his personal experience, the song reflects emotional scenarios he has observed. His aim is to give expression to emotions that many people—both men and women—often find difficult to articulate.

“Enda is basically telling a story of how it hurts to see her leave, but it hurts even more to see her stay because the guy knows he’s not the one for her. As much as he loves her, he has to let her go and spread her wings. I like voicing things some people—male or female—don’t feel comfortable sharing,” Naishe explained.

The official video for “Enda” premiered on Sunday, with the single now available on all major streaming platforms. The feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive.

“So far, Enda has been getting a lot of good feedback. Some people say they can relate to the song because they’ve actually gone through such a situation,” he said.

Looking ahead, Naishe hopes to secure opportunities for live performances, contribute to the vibrant creative scene in Victoria Falls, and use his influence to advocate against drug and substance abuse.

His family beams with pride at his accomplishments, celebrating his growth alongside other notable artists from the Wetland City such as the Kweseka Band, Mokoomba, and Andrea the Vocalist.

“Having him come into his own, realise his gift, and work so hard to manifest it into what it is today—it’s a good feeling, and we’re grateful,” said his mother, Tarisai Samupunga.

“We’re so happy, and we never expected that Rowland could sing at that level. We’re thrilled by this achievement. Wherever he is, he’ll be singing—and we never thought that singing would take him this far,” added his grandfather, Mr Rowland Makaure.

With “Enda” already making waves, and his unique sound steadily carving out a place in Zimbabwe’s music landscape, Naishe is undeniably a young artist to watch.

“Enda is basically telling a story of how it hurts to see her leave, but then it hurts more to see her stay because the guy knows that he’s not the one for her as much as you love her. He has to let her go and spread her wings, it’s voicing that out. I like voicing out something that some people, not even just male, but even female, that some people do not feel comfortable sharing,” he said.
