Vice President Colonel (Rtd) Kembo Mohadi has commissioned the Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa Clinic in Chirape, Gokwe, as the Second Republic continues to guarantee access to quality health services for the citizenry.
The clinic with modern facilities was constructed in honour of the First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa’s philanthropic works which cuts across the length and breadth of the country.
The works of the First Lady, who is also the country’s health ambassador, have not gone unnoticed as her selfless works have also seen her getting international recognition at various fora.
Vice President Kembo Mohadi says construction of the clinic by local businessman and philanthropist Cde Jimaya Muduvuri is in line with the Second Republic’s mantra of ‘Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo.’
“We are gathered here to celebrate the true philosophy that Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo. The commissioning of this facility is in honour of our First Lady’s philanthropic works. We hope the clinic can be upgraded to a district hospital and become a referral center. This beautiful facility has been built by one of our own. He has just indicated that he hasn’t stopped as he is in the process of constructing other clinics.
Such endeavours are commendable and those who can take a leaf should emulate such. This is testimony that His Excellence President Mnangagwa walks the talk when he says he wants everyone to have access to health. The project is a result of some personal experiences. I call upon other corporates to do likewise. Workers at the facility should do their jobs diligently in honour of the principles of the name the clinic bears. Integrity comes first from the Mother of the nation,” he said.
Cde Muduvuri spoke on the naming of the clinic and how the First Family assisted him after an accident which almost took his life.
“When I got involved in an accident in 2016, it was the now President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa who offered financial assistance for my medication. When I was delaying to go to hospital, The First Lady actually came to my house to beg me to go to the hospital .
“Her philanthropic works started way back. When my condition was getting worse in 2018, she again came to say Muduvuri, please go and get specialised attention. I again went to South Africa and today I have recovered and a successful businessman. The first family saved my life. So when I first constructed a clinic in my home area, I named it after the President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa and this time I thought it’s fair to name this one after the First Lady. It’s a thank you gesture,” he explained.
The community is excited to have excellent health care services on their doorsteps.
“It is indeed exciting that we now have such a facility here in Chirape. We used to have problems in getting medical attention especially at Mutora Business Centre. Pregnant women were the most affected. Now we are witnessing the fruits of Amai’s works,” said a community member.
“We used to have some serious problems here without a clinic. Sometimes women would get into labour at night. Some would try to use the scotch cart and by the time they reached the clinic they would have lost the child. The clinic is set to reduce the maternity mortality rate that was prevalent here. We all say thanks to Amai who inspired Cde Muduvuri to come up with such a facility,” noted another.
Cde Muduvuri has since constructed another clinic in Gwanda named after the late Vice President Dr Joshua Nkomo, while another one under construction in Gokwe was named after the late Vice President Cde Simon Muzenda.
Plans are afoot to construct several other clinics across the country in honour of luminaries of the liberation struggle for their sterling works.
Meanwhile, the event also witnessed Vice President Mohadi donating an assortment of 55 computers for schools and 15 tonnes of rice for the less-privileged to cushion them in the face of the El-Nino induced drought.
