The remains of fallen liberation war hero Cde Romeo Kadohwata who died in 1979 have been reburied at Mashonaland Central Provincial Heroes Acre, with government committing to ensuring decent burials for those who perished during the liberation struggle.

Relatives of the late liberation war hero thanked government for honouring him decades after his death remained a mystery.

Presiding over the reburial, Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Hon Christopher Magomo paid tribute to Cde Kadohwata for paying the ultimate sacrifice to liberate Zimbabwe from colonialism.

“Government is committed to ensuring that those who perished in various areas during the struggle to liberate Zimbabwe get decent burials. Without these freedom fighters, we would not be here and hold positions that we hold today,” he said.

Born in 1956 at Kadohwata village, under Chief Dotito in Mt Darwin, the late liberation hero was the first son of Jona and Maredhi Kadohwata.

He did his primary education at Kadohwata Primary School, up to standard six and joined the armed struggle in 1974.

He was sent for military training at the Magagao camp in Tanzania.

After training, he was deployed to Tete Province, where he fought valiantly for the country’s liberation in the Nehanda sector.

He died at the tender age of 23.
