THE University of Zambia (UNZA) Law School Class of 1975 plans to establish a law school in Zambia after drawing inspiration from the Emmerson Dambudzo (ED) Law School in Kwekwe.

The initiative was announced after members of the UNZA Law School Class of 1975 paid a courtesy call on President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House in Harare on Friday.

The delegation’s visit followed a tour of the ED Law School, where they expressed admiration for the facility and its role in advancing legal education.

Head of Delegation Professor Mpazi Sinjela said fundraising efforts were already under way to replicate the project in Zambia.

“We were impressed by the ED Law School in Kwekwe, and we think we can undertake a similar project in Zambia. Fundraising plans are underway to ensure that we replicate such positive developments by our colleague, President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa, who was part of our 1975 law school class in Zambia,” he said.

President Mnangagwa, a member of the UNZA Law School Class of 1975, has supported the institution through the ED-UNZA Scholarship Programme, which has assisted students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The ED Law School was established under the Second Republic’s Heritage-Based Education 5.0 Model, which promotes innovation, research and industrialisation within Zimbabwe’s education sector.
