UGANDA Vice President Honourable Jessica Rose Epel Alupo has arrived in Harare ahead of the official launch of Zimbabwe’s African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Review Report on Thursday.

She was received at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport by Vice President General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga, Attorney General Virginia Mabhiza and senior Government officials.

President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to launch the APRM Review Report at the Parliament Building in Mt Hampden, with the Ugandan Vice President representing APRM Chairperson and Ugandan President, His Excellency Yoweri Museveni.

The APRM is a voluntary self-monitoring mechanism established by African Union (AU) member states to promote good governance, transparency and sustainable development across the continent.

The mechanism assesses six thematic pillars: Democracy and Political Governance; Economic Governance and Management; Corporate Governance; Socio-Economic Development; State Resilience to Disaster and Shocks; and E-Governance.

Zimbabwe joined the APRM on 8 February 2020 during the 29th Session of the African Peer Review Forum of Heads of State and Government in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, focusing on the pillar of Economic Governance and Management.

In November 2025, the country underwent a targeted review on Economic Governance and Management across all 10 provinces under the guidance of the APRM Continental Secretariat.

President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa presented Zimbabwe’s Review Report, which was successfully peer-reviewed at the 35th APR Forum of Heads of State and Government on 13 February 2026 in Addis Ababa.

The institutionalisation of the APRM is expected to strengthen self-assessment, peer accountability and continuous improvement by aligning national policies with continental best practices. It also seeks to reinforce good governance, provide an objective assessment of Zimbabwe’s governance and socio-economic progress, and promote dialogue between Government, the private sector, communities and non-state actors.
