BULAWAYO – WOMEN’s football stakeholders believe better days lie ahead after giving their input in the third leg of women’s football engagements underway across the country.

Speaking on the sidelines of the third leg in Bulawayo, Women’s Football Southern Region Chairperson, Cathrine Mavada, said the well-constituted platform will contribute to the growth of the beautiful game.

“As the southern region, we are happy to have been given a platform to be part of the strategy formulation through this engagement. We want to see women’s football thrive and together, we can realise that.”

The engagements meant to gather diverse input from stakeholders, have been to Harare, Gweru and Bulawayo with the last leg set for Masvingo.

Facilitators from COSAFA and FIFA said a new strategy will see the Mighty Warriors become a dominant force in football.

COSAFA Women Football Consultancy, Violet Jubane noted that the ideas should be incorporated into the strategy.

“We had to go to the four regions because circumstances are unique but we are happy the engagements are taking us somewhere,” FIFA Women Football technical expert, Thubelihle Sibanda said.

The Zimbabwe Football Association’s vice president, Loveness Mukura, says proper engagements will see a sound strategy being realised.

“As ZIFA, our focus is to take women’s football to a higher level and the way we can do it is to value the contributions from all stakeholders, hence this engagement.”

The Mighty Warriors shocked the world after making a pinnacle appearance at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and a proper strategy will see the country returning to be a powerhouse in women’s football.
