Six suspected armed robbers arrested

Story by Fungai Jachi, Courts Reporter

SIX suspected armed robbers have been arrested after allegedly raiding a financial services company in Harare and getting away with over US$700 000 in cash.

Brighton Chikukwa aged 28, Silence Matambo (29), Washington Mangwanda (23), Liberty Mukanganise (31), Tafadzwa Marondera (25) and 28-year-old Luke Zinyengere were arrested on Tuesday in Harare.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the development on their X handle saying the suspects were arrested by detectives from CID Homicide.

The suspects allegedly attacked a gardener at Quest Financial Services in Belgravia, Harare on the 25th of this month before breaking into the operations manager’s office where they blasted a safe and stole over 700 thousand United States dollars, 10 thousand rand and 120 Euro.

The suspects are said to have dropped US$5000 000, two laptops and a grinder at the crime scene.

Police recovered part of the stolen cash and vehicles that were bought using the cash.

Meanwhile, in another case, the High Court has acquitted former Mt Pleasant legislator, Fadzayi Mahere on appeal after she was convicted at the Magistrates Court last year.

Mahere was charged and later convicted of communicating falsehoods prejudicial to the State.

In her appeal, Mahere argued that the offence in terms of which she was charged and convicted was invalid.
