ALL is set for the burial of National Hero Ambassador Victor Matemadanda at the National Heroes Acre this Friday.
The body of the national hero, which lay in state at his rural homestead in Sanyati on Wednesday, arrived at Charles Gumbo Barracks this Thursday afternoon aboard a military helicopter.
Ambassador Matemadanda’s body was accompanied by his wife, Tendai, and was received by officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage.
The national hero’s body will lie in state at the family residence in Mt Pleasant Heights, Harare, ahead of Friday’s burial.
Director of Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Mr Mike Musaka, said all preparations for the burial were in place.
“We are ready to give a befitting send-off to our national hero. We have organised 85 buses to ferry mourners from across the country’s 10 provinces. Fifty buses have been allocated to Harare Province, while the remaining provinces have each been allocated buses to transport mourners to the national shrine,” he said.
Cde Matemadanda, who will be laid to rest at the national shrine on Friday, was Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Mozambique and the Kingdom of Eswatini at the time of his death.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to preside over the burial proceedings at the National Heroes Acre.
