DEFENDING champions, Simba Bhora dropped two points to give log leaders, Scottland an advantage in the title race, after the Shamva-based side drew one-all with Highlanders in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Wadzanai Stadium this Saturday.
Simba Bhora’s hopes of defending their Premier Soccer League title took another knock, leaving them on 57 points, five behind the log leaders.
The early pace setters’ form has dwindled of late, as Joel Lupahla’s charges have only managed just three points in the last five matches, handing the advantage to a determined Tonderayi Ndiraya-coached Scottland outfit.
While Simba Bhora dropped two points at home, MWOS FC climbed to second on 58 points after edging Triangle United one-nil at Ngoni Stadium.
Elsewhere, TelOne drew one-all with Green Fuel at Ascot, Chicken Inn and CAPS United also finished one-all at Luveve, while Manica Diamonds beat Ngezi Platinum Stars one-nil at Sakubva.
ZPC Kariba and FC Platinum shared the spoils in a one-all draw at Nyamhunga, and Yadah stunned Herentals College one-nil at Rufaro Stadium.
Scottland FC, who sit top with 62 points from 31 matches, are now just one victory away from making history by winning the PSL title in their debut season, if they beat Kwekwe United this Sunday at Ascot Stadium.
In individual accolades, Washington Navaya continues to impress, scoring his 17th goal of the campaign to go level with last year’s Golden Boot winner, Lynoth Chikuhwa.
Navaya now needs three more goals in the remaining two matches to become the first player since the late Norman Maroto in 2010 to reach the 20-goal milestone in a single season.
This Sunday’s fixtures will see Dynamos hosting Bikita Minerals at Rufaro Stadium in a crucial relegation battle, while Scottland FC visit Kwekwe United at Ascot Stadium, where the title could be decided.
