CHIMBUMU Primary School in Guruve has been equipped with modern Information Communication Technology (ICT) tools, including laptops, a Starlink kit, and an interactive smart board, as part of government efforts to enhance digital learning in rural schools.
The donation, made under the patronage of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, was received by parents, teachers, and learners on Saturday. The initiative forms part of the government’s broader drive to integrate ICT into teaching and learning, ensuring rural students have access to the same technological resources as their urban counterparts.
“I am delighted as a member of staff with this positive development at our school. This will improve learning and teaching,” a beneficiary said.
“We are now going to be like other children who are learning ICTs. I thank President Mnangagwa for the computers, Starlink, and smart boards,” noted another beneficiary.
“I am happy because we have gotten laptops at our school. We can do research and learn new things that we did not know,” a beneficiary added.
Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honourable Christopher Magomo said the laptops should be utilised to buttress the heritage-based education 5.0.
“The equipment you received today is the latest technology. It will help you conduct research in line with the upper-middle-income society status. That is the President’s vision,” he said.
In addition to enhancing learning, the ICT equipment is expected to improve school administration.
“It seemed like a dream that would never come to pass, insofar as getting computers. We have 1 200 learners, but they did not know what a computer is. At the administration, we used to have one computer that was exchanged hands,” Chimbumu Primary School Head, Arthur Chikazhe noted.
The government is targeting access to modern technology at rural schools in the country to bridge the digital divide in line with the country’s ICT policy under the leaving no one and no place behind mantra.
