CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer champions Scottland have taken a significant step towards international collaboration after signing a five-year partnership with South African top-flight side Durban City in Harare on Monday.

Although only two years old, Scottland are already national champions, while Durban City, formerly Maritzburg United, bring 22 years of top-flight experience from South African football.

Together, they are building a fast-track future opening doors for players, coaches and technical staff through regular exchanges, elite exposure and clear pathways to international clubs.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Scottland Governor Tonderai Sakupwanya said the deal aligns with the club’s long-term vision of becoming a hub for talent development and export.

“This is more than a partnership; it is a regional football bridge between Zimbabwe and South Africa. Our shared goal is to develop players, coaches, and football institutions. We are building a pipeline that connects local talent to global opportunity. This collaboration represents a strategic football and commercial agreement valued at US$1.5 million. The investment covers youth development, technical support, exchange programmes, tournaments, and commercial growth. It signals serious intent and a long-term commitment to football development,” he said.

The partnership creates direct pathways for Scottland players into the Durban City system, including opportunities for European exposure.

“This partnership is built on shared values and a common vision for football development and success. Through this collaboration, both clubs are committing to working closely together, drawing from each other’s strengths and experiences. Going forward, this partnership will focus on ensuring that the objectives we have set are achieved, developing talent, strengthening structures, and creating sustainable pathways for growth. We are confident that this collaboration will benefit both clubs as we move into the future,” Durban City CEO Younus Kadodia said.

From local champions to global pathways.

Scottland’s rapid rise now meets Durban City’s decades of premiership experience, as the two clubs commit to a five-year partnership designed to develop, expose and export football talent beyond the region.
