SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation reaffirms commitment to peace in Eastern DRC

THE SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation has reiterated regional support and calls for an end to hostilities in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

This came out when the Southern African Development Community (SADC) convened for a virtual Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Organ Troika this Thursday which deliberated on the escalating security situation in the eastern part of the DRC.

In a statement, Tanzania President, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, who chairs the Organ reiterated that SADC will continue to assist the DRC and reiterated the regional bloc’s solidarity with the people of DRC in the spirit of unity and cooperation.

According to the SADC Secretariat, the outcomes and recommendations from the Extraordinary Organ Troika Summit will be presented to the Extraordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government to be convened on a date to be confirmed.

The Summit was chaired by Her Excellency Dr Hassan in her capacity as the Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation and attended by Malawi, Zambia, DRC and South Africa which is one of the Troop Contributing Countries to the SADC Mission in the DRC (SAMIDRC).
