RUNDE and Mberengwa residents have lauded the Second Republic for ensuring improved service delivery through the devolution programme and the Belarus facility following the commissioning of fire tenders and a tractor.
The rural district councils’ quest to improve service delivery is on course following the commissioning of two fire tenders and a tractor.
The Belarus facility programme saw Mberengwa district council receiving a fire tender, while Runde Rural District Council got a fire tender and a tractor.
The two rural authorities expressed gratitude to government for a noble initiative under the devolution fund concept.
“I am filled with immense joy and gratitude as we are gathered here to witness the commissioning of a fire tender. I would want to thank President Emmerson Mnangagwa for facilitating this gesture. The devolution funds concept is a game changer to our communities,” Mberengwa Rural District Council’s Chairperson Councillor Garisikai Moyo said.
“Runde rural district is appreciative to the second Republic for spearheading such initiatives. This is a good initiative because prior to this, we were faced with a lot of challenges such as fire incidents and accidents,” Runde Rural District Council’s Chairperson Councillor Normore Nyoni said.
Government says it remains committed to improving service delivery, with local authorities being urged to prioritise life-changing programmes.
“As government, our mandate is to ensure that lives have been uplifted and by so doing, we are committed to that. This is not the first time that we have rolled such initiative, we did it in all our rural district councils in the Midlands Province. We want to ensure that developmental programmes have been rolled out. I would like to urge our local authorities to prioritise development,” Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honourable Owen Ncube noted.
So far in the Midlands Province, six out of eight rural councils have received fire tenders from the government under the Belarus facility and these include Zibagwe, Chirumhanzu, Tongogara, Vungu, Runde and Mberengwa.
