Reports suggest Benjani back in frame for Highlanders top job

BULAWAYO giants Highlanders FC could be on the verge of a significant technical restructuring amid reports that former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari is being considered for the head coach position.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that the club may part ways with South African tactician Thabo Senong, who is yet to secure a work permit and has since returned to his base.
The uncertainty surrounding Senong’s availability is understood to have complicated preparations ahead of the new season.
Sources say the latest developments follow a meeting held in Harare on Tuesday, where Highlanders chairperson Kenneth Mhlophe and his deputy, Fiso Siziba, reportedly met club benefactor and businessman, Wicknell Chivayo, to discuss the team’s future.
In December, Chivayo publicly stated that he was prepared to bankroll Highlanders, on condition that Mwaruwari was appointed head coach.
The club, however, declined the proposal at the time and proceeded to appoint Senong. Fresh indications suggest that Highlanders’ worsening financial challenges may have prompted a reassessment of that decision, with the club now seeking a more sustainable and competitive pathway ahead of the upcoming campaign.
While no official statement has been issued by the club, insiders say discussions are ongoing as Bosso weighs its options in an effort to stabilise operations and restore on-field competitiveness
