The Warriors have had their hopes of playing their matches at home renewed after government revealed that refurbishment works at the National Sports Stadium have started.
The Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere gave an update on the project during a post-cabinet media briefing in Harare this Tuesday.
The senior men’s national football team as well as clubs participating in CAF inter-club competitions, Dynamos and Ngezi Platinum Stars, were forced to look elsewhere after the National Sports Stadium failed to meet the required CAF standards.
Government is, however, working on addressing the situation with the second phase of renovations at the country’s biggest stadium having commenced.
“The Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Honourable Kirsty Coventry, reported that the following progress on the refurbishment of the National Sports Stadium in Harare Metropolitan Province is progressing well, with completion of Stadium water reticulation works being 65% complete; closed-circuit television (CCTV), turnstiles, and Venue Operations Control is 50% complete; and bucket seats installation is 35% complete,” announced the minister.
The facility does not have buckets seats, constant water supply and electronic turnstiles, among other requirements.
The works are expected to end in December, with the stadium set to be ready for use in January next year.
