Raza scales dizzy heights

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

ZIMBABWE senior cricket team star and all-rounder Sikandar Raza is scaling dizzy heights on the international scene after he was named captain of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) side Saint Lucia Kings.

The 37-year-old Zimbabwean cricket superstar takes over from former South African captain Faf Du Plessis, who is set to undergo surgery after suffering an elbow injury.

Raza, who has been one of the most sought-after players in Franchise cricket around the world is hoping to lead the Saint Lucia Kings to their maiden CPL title.

“It’s quite humbling for Saint Lucia Kings to entrust me with the responsibility. I’m very relaxed and humbled about it only because we’ve got 18 boys that are focused and determined to do well and captaining is basically just to go out there and flip the coin. We’ve got one goal and one dream to achieve,” he said.

The elevation to the St Lucia Kings captaincy comes after Raza was named the player of the match during their 54-run victory in their last match against the Trinbago Knight Riders on Sunday.

Raza will be joined by Chevrons’ test captain Sean Williams at the Caribbean Island.

His appointment affirms his growing status after taking part in World cricket’s most lucrative franchise tournament, the Indian Premier League.

He has also played in the Pakistan Premier League, Bangladesh Premier League, and the Abu Dhabi T20 competition.
