History was recorded this Monday as the Premier Soccer League trophy landed in Mashonaland Central province for the first time ever.
The trophy made its maiden appearance in the province as the Simba Bhora executive, led by Club President, Simba Ndoro, took the topflight league trophy to Bindura, the Provincial Capital of Mashonaland Central.
Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Christopher Magomo warmly welcomed the trophy, thanking the team for making province proud.
“This is quite amazing for Mashonaland Central Province. As a province, it’s one of its kind getting a premier soccer league championship. It’s quite amazing and I am so delighted. He briefed me that we are going to represent the country so. Everyone owns this trophy,” he said.
Simba Bhora chronicled the long journey to the premier league title which began in 2008.
Charles Nyatsine, Simba Bhora spokesperson, said, “Our motto is Chinhu Chedu. When we won this trophy it wasn’t for Simba Bhora alone. That is why we had to come and show the Minister, it hasn’t been an easy journey for us. We started this journey as far back as 2008, in 2009 we almost got into the premier league but failed. Due to the guidance of Simba Ndoro, we bounced back in 2018.’
A carnival from Mazowe to Bindura and Shamva is now being planned to exhibit the Premier League trophy to the public.
Before Simba Bhora, only two other teams from Mashonaland Central Province – Mwana Africa and Mushowani Stars – had ever played top flight football.
