PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa is scheduled to commission the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) Smart Silos and officially launch the 2026-2030 Agriculture Food Systems and Rural Transformation Strategy in Mutare, Manicaland Province, this Wednesday.
The Smart Silos which are part of the ongoing modernisation of the GMB include, 14 AI-driven silos across Zimbabwe.
Once operational, they will add 750 000 tonnes of storage capacity, reinforcing Zimbabwe’s role as a regional food distribution hub, as designated by the World Food Programme.
The 2026-2030 Agriculture Food Systems and Rural Transformation Strategy will increase irrigable hectarage to nearly 500 000 from the current 220 000 hectares.
