President Mnangagwa receives Sahrawi’s special envoy

A special envoy from the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Ambassador Mohammed Yeslem Beisat has paid a courtesy call on President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House in Harare this Tuesday to deliver a special message from President Brahim Ghali.

Briefing the media after a closed-door-meeting with President Mnangagwa, Ambassador Beisat said the message was centred on the bilateral relations between the two countries and the challenges the Sahrawi people are facing in relation to their independence.

“We have the honour and the pleasure to be received by His Excellency, President Mnangagwa, President of the sister Republic of Zimbabwe. I have delivered a letter from his brother and colleague President Ghali . The letter is related to the bilateral relations that have always existed between the two countries. The letter is also related to the ongoing situation of the struggle of the Sahrawi people in relation to independence,nationall independence and freedom,” he said.

The special envoy also stressed that there have been calls from the Head of State level for cooperation between Zimbabwe and Sahrawi to increase.

“The two countries have a wide range of cooperation, the President has instructed to have more,” he noted.

The Western Sahara, which is a former Spanish colony, was annexed by Morocco in 1975, and since then, there have been ongoing territorial disputes between Morocco and the Sahrawi inhabitants led by the Polisario Front.
