ZANU PF First Secretary and President, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa has directed the nation’s attention towards afforestation to tackle the impact of climate change.
As per tradition, ZANU PF President and First Secretary Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, accompanied by the Secretary for Environment and Tourism in the Politburo, Dr Auxilia Mnangagwa, led a tree planting initiative on the sidelines of the 21st National People’s Conference in Bulawayo this Saturday.
President Mnangagwa said afforestation is one of the priority areas as the country adopts strategies to promote sustainable practices for combating climate change.
“What we have done here and do as a party is to prepare for our future generations,” he noted.
The First Lady, Dr Auxilia Mnangagwa, emphasised that the battle against climate change requires collaboration between the public and private sectors.
Vice Presidents General (Rtd) Dr Constantino Chiwenga and Colonel (Rtd) Kembo Mohadi, also participated in the tree-planting exercise.
From the tree planting the President toured stands at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre, where various institutions showcased their wares.
“Each year, our people are more innovative, and new things come onto the stands; thus, we have new pets into goods and services, and I’m m so happy about this,” he said.
The ZANU PF President and First Secretary stressed the importance of supporting small to medium-sized enterprises dovetailing with the national vision of an upper-middle-income society.
