PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has left Harare for South Africa to attend the Former Liberation Movements Summit.
The summit, which began this Friday, brings together former liberation movements from Southern Africa.
Speaking from the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, Presidential spokesperson, Mr George Charamba said the summit is a back-to-basics platform for the liberation movements, which gives them an opportunity to discuss the growth of negative forces which seek to undermine liberation movements.
Mr Charamba said these negative forces have created a new environment under which the former liberation movements have to operate, hence the need to get together and take stock of that environment.
The summit is being attended by representatives from ZANU PF, South Africa’s ANC, Angola’s MPLA, Namibia’s SWAPO, Tanzania’s CCM, and Mozambique’s FRELIMO.
President Mnangagwa was seen off at the airport by Vice Presidents General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga and Colonel (Retired) Kembo Mohadi, along with several senior government officials.
