PRESIDENT Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa has declared the Deka Bridge Accident, which occurred in Hwange on Saturday, a State of Disaster.
In a statement, Local Government and Public Works Minister Honourable Daniel Garwe said the declaration follows an accident in which a Toyota Noah vehicle carrying 14 passengers, including the driver, veered off the road and plunged into Deka bridge, resulting in the death of eight people.
Six other passengers sustained injuries.
The vehicle was travelling from a church service at St. John’s Makwa Roman Catholic Church to Victoria Falls.
The declaration of the State of Disaster allows government to mobilise the necessary support and assistance to the affected families.
