A joint consultative meeting between the Peace and Security Council of the African Union and the Pan African Parliament(PAP) is underway at the PAP Headquarters in Midrand, South Africa.
Delegates are deliberating on mechanisms for increased parliamentary involvement in conflict resolution and management across the African continent.
The meeting is also aimed at deepening institutional capacities to address Africa’s complex governance, peace and security challenges, as well as exploring structured mechanisms for engagement on conflict prevention, management and resolution, as well as post-conflict reconstruction on the continent.
The two-day joint meeting, started this Thursday, is being co-chaired by PAP president, Chief Fortune Charumbira, and the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Uganda to the African Union, who is also the chairperson of African Union’s Peace and Security Council, Ambassador Rebecca Amuge Otengo.
The meeting is running under the theme: ‘Enhancing Institutional Synergy and Collaboration for Sustainable Peace and Security in Africa.”’
