THE Midlands Province is witnessing a construction boom driven by rising public and private sector investment, the adoption of modern building technologies and policies promoting sustainable development.
Infrastructure projects are increasingly reshaping communities across the province, creating employment opportunities and stimulating economic activity.

In Gweru, a local company is embracing environmentally friendly construction technologies aimed at accelerating housing delivery while reducing environmental impact.
“This technology allows us to manufacture lightweight steel components such as trusses using automated machinery. It replaces traditional timber and significantly reduces construction time. The system promotes sustainability, creates employment, and supports the national Vision 2030 agenda by enabling the rapid delivery of quality housing,” Architectural Technician, Mr Andile Moyo said.
The initiative is also providing young people with opportunities to acquire technical skills and gain meaningful employment.
“As youths, we have been given an opportunity to learn and work with modern technology, improving our skills and employment prospects,” a youth said.
“When young people are meaningfully occupied, they are less likely to engage in drug and substance abuse. This initiative is empowering us to create livelihoods for ourselves,” another youth said.
The locally manufactured prefabricated building components are designed for both low- and high-income housing projects, offering faster installation, durability and affordability.
“The structures are durable, termite-resistant, and require minimal maintenance. Most of the materials are sourced locally, reducing costs and supporting local industry. The technology allows clients to build progressively according to their budgets while benefiting from faster construction times,” Proprietor, Mr Taleb Mohamed said.
The developments come as Government intensifies efforts to modernise infrastructure and expand access to affordable housing.
“The Second Republic, under the leadership of President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa, has prioritised infrastructure development and affordable housing as key pillars of national development, ensuring that no one and no place is left behind on the journey towards Vision 2030,” Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube said.
With innovation, sustainability and job creation increasingly shaping the sector, the construction industry in Midlands Province is contributing towards the national target of delivering one million housing units by 2030.
