Outcry over Highfield speed humps

MOTORISTS in Harare have expressed concern over speed humps that were erected by the city council on a freeway in Harare’s Highfield suburb, which are causing congestion and accidents on a daily basis.

Negotiating through Main Street which passes through Highfield’s Machipisa area from Willowvale Road to High Glen is now a nightmare for motorists due to speed humps that were erected by Harare City Council.

ZBC News witnessed motorists struggling to negotiate the speed humps with some of the cars being damaged due to the sheer size of the humps.

Motorists and residents have also questioned the rationale behind erecting the humps on a freeway.

“Only yesterday there was an accident here because of these speed humps,” said a motorist.

Another said, “We are not against the speed humps but the size and the way they were constructed leaves a lot to be desired.”

“Our cars are being damaged. I recently replaced a broken sump as a result of these humps,” another motorist.

In response, Harare City Council spokesperson, Stanley Gama said the relevant department has dispatched a team to assess the situation.
