As the country marks 37 years of the Unity Accord, government has been commended for its stance on the promotion of peace to propel national development.

In Matabeleland North, opposition political party Zimbabwe African National Congress has lauded President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s stance of preaching unity among the citizenry.

The party believes national progress can only be achieved in a tranquil environment.

“Let us remember the importance of forgiveness. We recognise the significance of this day and the quest to build prosperity in our nation. We honour the visionaries who paved the way for our nation’s independence and under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe has made significant strides in maintaining peace, unity and earning its place as one of the most peaceful countries in the world,” said ZANC president, Mr Timothy Ncube.

22 December is marked in the annals of the country’s history as an important day when national aspirations gave way to individual differences leading to the signing of the historic Unity Accord.
