NINE-year-old Kaleisha Chiyaka is preparing to represent Zimbabwe at the fourth Kids and Teens Global Pageant in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, this April, combining international ambition with community outreach at home.

Before taking to the global stage, the young Mini Miss Global has been engaging in philanthropic work, recently donating essential items to children at the Foundation of Hope International Trust in Epworth.

During her visit, Kaleisha said her outreach efforts are guided by a desire to uplift vulnerable children and raise awareness about their needs.

“This is a place where kids are dealing with way more than any child should have to. Imagine losing your parents, your safe space and your sense of security. My friends and I from my foundation are here to put a smile on their faces and remind them that they are not alone, just like the Foundation of Hope is doing.

“You and I can change the narrative of these amazing kids by donating food, clothes, shelter, education or even by spreading awareness. Every bit counts. Let’s show love and spare a thought for these wonderful kids,” she said.

Founder of the Foundation of Hope International Trust, Ms Portia Dombo, described the centre as a safe haven for disadvantaged children.

It’s a play centre for disadvantaged children, the underprivileged and orphans in the community,” she said.

Some of the children expressed gratitude for the support and highlighted the knowledge they gained during the interaction.

“We learnt a lot about children’s rights; some of us didn’t know about them. We are happy we received clothes and other goodies,” one of the beneficiaries said.

Looking ahead to April, Kaleisha will showcase Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage on the global stage.

“There’s going to be this pageant in Malaysia, and right there I’m going to be showcasing my culture, Zimbabwe and the cultures of Zimbabwe. I will also be showcasing my favourite places in Zimbabwe, like Bumi Hills and others such as Victoria Falls, Great Zimbabwe and Khami Ruins,” she said.

Organised by Leading Management, the Kids and Teens Global Pageant focuses on personal development, confidence-building and global connectivity. Contestants participate in cultural segments, national costume presentations, talent showcases and subsidiary awards, highlighting creativity and heritage.

As Kaleisha prepares to carry the nation’s flag abroad, her humanitarian efforts at home are already demonstrating that leadership and compassion know no age.
