NATIONAL Hero, Brigadier General (Rtd) Mpandasekwa Mzheri, will be buried at the National Heroes Acre in Harare this Monday.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to preside over the burial ceremony.
Brigadier General (Rtd) Mzheri passed away on Monday last week at a local hospital at the age of 75.
Born in 1950 in Mberengwa District, he played a key role in Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle and was part of the delegation that participated in the historic Lancaster House peace talks in 1979 as a military adviser.
Following the attainment of independence in 1980, Brigadier General (Rtd) Mzheri was among the first 18 ex-combatants to be attested into the Zimbabwe National Army as a Colonel in April 1981. He went on to become the first Commandant at Inkomo Garrison.
During his distinguished military career, he held several key positions, including Commander 3 Infantry Brigade, Commander Special Task Force Mozambique, and Director-General for Defence Policy, Public Relations and Protocol, before retiring in July 1999.
