At least 40 people, including Zimbabweans, die in Limpopo bus accident

AT least 40 people, including Zimbabweans, have died in a horrific bus accident on the N1 freeway outside Makhado (formerly Louis Trichardt) in South Africa’s Limpopo Province.

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety confirmed the tragedy, which occurred around 2pm on Sunday near Ingwe Lodge in Musina.

Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC, Violet Mathye, said the deceased include Zimbabwean and Malawian nationals who were travelling to their respective home countries from Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth).

The Zimbabwean Consulate in Johannesburg has also confirmed the accident and said identification and repatriation processes are now underway.

Authorities in Limpopo have launched investigations to determine the cause of the crash.
