Museum of African Liberation epitomises African unity

Story by Owen Mandovha

The Museum of African Liberation, which is being constructed in Harare, embodies the struggle for freedom that binds the continent together.

This came out during Presidential envoy, Cde Simbarashe Mumbengegwi’s tour of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) region updating Heads of State on the progress of the project.

Cde Mumbengegwi also met the SADC Executive Secretary, Dr Elias Magosi who maintained the bloc’s strong support to the fundamental concept of preserving Africa’s Liberation history.

The chief executive officer of the Museum of African Liberation, Ambassador Kwameh Muzawazi, paid tribute to SADC for the gesture.

“The statement by the Secretariat of SADC lending its support to the museum is indeed an indication of Zimbabwe’s diplomatic prowess, contrary to comments to condemn the project. Executive Secretary to the regional bloc, Dr Elias Magosi unequivocally stated the bloc’s commitment to supporting the noble initiative in his statement after meeting our own Presidential envoy to the project,” he said.

Zimbabwe is set to take the reigns of the SADC chairmanship in August and the regional bloc is expected to reiterate the importance of the project which will prop up the region’s diplomatic flair.

“The SADC summit is there in August and Zimbabwe will assume the chairmanship of the regional bloc, hence the SADC secretariat has promised to appreciate the development of the project during that occasion which is the Government’s diplomacy victory in certain terms,” he added.

Cde Mumbengegwi also paid a courtesy call on the Chairperson of the African Union, Moussa Faki Mahamat, who underscored the crucial role that will be played by the Museum of African Liberation as the custodian of Africa’s history and its renaissance.
