COMMUNITIES in Gokwe-Chireya Constituency have praised the Second Republic for accelerating infrastructure development and empowerment programmes that are transforming rural livelihoods and improving access to essential services across the constituency.
Gokwe-Chireya Member of Parliament, Honourable Torerai Moyo, who is also Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, toured several development projects this Saturday to assess progress and engage with beneficiaries on the ground.
Residents expressed satisfaction with Government-driven initiatives, particularly youth empowerment schemes, education infrastructure development and income-generating projects.
“This is a positive development for Gokwe. As youths, we now have projects that are keeping us productive and away from criminal activities. New classroom blocks are also being constructed, which will improve learning conditions for our children,” said one resident.
Another community member said the empowerment projects are helping families improve their livelihoods.
“We are very happy with the work being done by our leadership. These projects will help us generate income and pay school fees for our children,” the resident said.
The infrastructure development programme has been welcomed by education stakeholders, who say it is addressing long-standing challenges in the sector.
Chemukuyu Primary School Head, Mr Johnsen Chirasha, said the construction of additional classroom blocks is expected to improve access to education.
“The new classroom blocks will help increase school enrolment, which had been affected by a shortage of learning space. The intervention by Honourable Torerai Moyo has significantly improved the situation,” he said.
Ward Eight Councillor Mr Member Mapiringanwa said the pace of development under the Second Republic is visible across the constituency.
“The Second Republic is implementing numerous development projects that are improving the lives of people in Gokwe North. Communities are witnessing tangible results from Government programmes,” he said.
ZANU PF Chemukuyu District Chairperson, Cde Roy Mpofu, also commended the ongoing initiatives.
“We thank President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa and the Government for the development taking place in Gokwe-Chireya. We are confident that Vision 2030 will be achieved through the continued implementation of these programmes,” he noted.
Addressing residents during the tour, Honourable Moyo reaffirmed Government’s commitment to improving livelihoods through infrastructure development and community empowerment initiatives.
“I am conducting an infrastructure development tour across the constituency where we are renovating existing classroom blocks and constructing new ones. These projects have been underway for the past three months. As Government, we are fulfilling the commitments we made to the electorate.
“We also pledged to establish income-generating projects, and under the Presidential Schemes, we have distributed chicks and goats to communities and schools. In addition, efforts are being made to improve access to clean and safe water,” he said.
The Government, through the National Development Strategy2, continues to prioritise the expansion of educational infrastructure and the provision of modern learning technologies, including computers, Starlink internet connectivity and interactive smart boards in rural schools.
The initiatives are expected to enhance access to quality education while contributing to broader rural development and economic empowerment goals.
