WARRIORS vice-captain Marshall Munetsi is set to miss the Africa Cup of Nations due to injury, according to reports from his base in England.
Munetsi, a key figure and tireless performer for the national team, has been sidelined after sustaining an injury during recent club duties.
The Mabvuku-raised midfielder has missed the last two matches for his English Premier League side, Wolves, due to a muscle injury.
Wolves coach Rob Edwards confirmed after the club’s defeat to Manchester United that Munetsi will be out for the remainder of the year, effectively ruling him out of the continental showpiece.
In another setback, utility player Jordan Zemura, who was withdrawn after just 15 minutes on Monday, is also likely to miss the tournament after his club Udinese revealed he had suffered a muscle injury.
Coach Marian Marinica now faces a major selection dilemma as he works to finalise his squad ahead of Thursday’s submission deadline.
The potential absence of Munetsi and Zemura could deal a blow to the team’s midfield stability and versatility, although ZIFA is yet to officially confirm their unavailability.
The Warriors are expected to leave for Morocco on the 16th of this month.
