ZIMBABWE has begun implementing a roadmap to strengthen consumer protection, with regulators pledging closer collaboration to safeguard consumers across key sectors of the economy.

The inaugural 2026 Regulators Forum brought together regulatory authorities from the energy, ICT, banking, insurance and tourism sectors to strengthen consumer protection and improve regulatory coordination.

Participants committed to harmonising policies and enhancing cooperation to address consumer concerns more effectively.

Deposit Protection Corporation spokesperson, Mr Allan Musadziruma said collaboration among regulators is critical to tackling increasingly complex consumer issues.

“Advancing consumer interests in Zimbabwe remains the hallmark of strengthening consumer protection against unfair trading practices. We shall harmonise our policies to ensure consumers receive fair outcomes across all sectors of the economy. Collaboration among regulators is key because consumer challenges cut across several sectors. This forum provides the right platform to exchange ideas, strengthen cooperation and harmonise laws to ensure consumers are protected and markets are fair and safe,” he said.

Consumer Protection Commission Chief Executive Officer, Professor Zororo Muranda said stronger consumer confidence is essential for economic growth and industrialisation.

“Strong consumer confidence encourages industrialisation. Robust regulatory collaboration on consumer protection facilitates socio-economic development because a well-regulated market translates into increased efficiency and improved service delivery. Sustainable development depends on transparent and fair approaches to consumer concerns,” he said.

Regulators said improving consumer welfare remains central to promoting fair markets, strengthening confidence and supporting sustainable socio-economic development.
