Motorists applaud government’s ERRP programme

Story by John Nhandara

Contractors have been enlisted by the government to attend to sections of highways and roads in residential areas that were damaged by heavy rains in the past four months.

Government’s commitment to a good road network has seen attention being put on highways and intra-city roads damaged by rain.

On its Twitter handle, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development confirmed the poor state of some roads as a result of the rainy season, hence current works to spruce up the areas.

Elsewhere, the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme in Harare is progressing well, with most contractors on site working on roads such as Alpes, Domboshava, and Donnybrook Road.

The ZBC News visited some of the roads which are at various stages of rehabilitation.

Sinani Drive which links Acturus Road and Gazebo is one of the roads under rehabilitation, with the development having excited motorists using the road.

Speaking to ZBC News motorists applauded the government for the work it is carrying out through the rehabilitation of roads.

“This road was in a sorry state and we applaud the government for a job well done,” said a pleased motorist.

Without hiding his delight another motorist said, “This is commendable. The government is identifying all roads and we are quite pleased about the progress.”

Another motorist added, “We hope this kind of road rehabilitation is not only being done in our area but elsewhere.

“So far over 40 Harare roads have received a facelift under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme and these include Boshof Drive, Paisley, Pangula, Kelvin South, and Masotsha Ndlovu.
