The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has set out plans to create a strong and competitive manufacturing base that will aid Zimbabwe’s economic growth and development.
A strong and competitive manufacturing and industrial capacity is therefore at the core of spearheading and realising Government’s economic growth prospects.
Over the years, industry has witnessed massive transformation in terms of re-tooling and modernising.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Dr Ushe outlined his department’s key result areas this year to harness Government economic obligations.
He was speaking at a cocktail dinner held by his Ministry for the media practitioners in Harare this Friday.
“We have witnessed massive transition and growth of the industry over the years, however our main aim this year as a Ministry is to further harness those achievements while creating a modern and agile manufacturing sector that is competitive and this will become a key anchor of the massive transformation and growth of the economy,” he said.
Secretary General of the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists ( ZUJ) Mr Perfect Hlongwane underscored the media’s significance and key role in advancing the country’s economic interests in a non-partisan manner.
“The media is a key enabler of Governments economic growth and development and it is important that any achievements made should be correctly interpreted in order to provide a simple understanding of what is transpiring in the economy and the nation at large,” he said.
The media cocktail saw several representatives and heads of various industry bodies such as the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce, the Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers and the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries engage with media practitioners, harnessing relations and discussing expectations on the manner in which industry issues should be factually reported.
