THE Midlands High Court Circuit has opened with a panel of five judges set to preside over high profile cases including murder, rape and armed robbery.

The Court circuit opens a week after the official opening of the legal year in Bulawayo last Monday.

Midlands Provincial Prosecutor, Mr Samuel Pedzisayi told ZBC News that Gweru has 47 cases while 35 other cases are from Gokwe.

Justice Munamati Mutevedzi, Justice Naison Chivhayo and Justice Bongani Ndovu will preside over the Gweru cases.

The Gokwe cases will be presided over by Justice Pisirayi Kwenda and Justice Easther Mungwari.

The Gweru magistrate courts are expected to be a hive of activity for the next two weeks as High Court judges preside over the high-profile cases with a view to reduce the case backlog.
