Mauritania’s Dr Ould elected African Development Bank president

DR Tah Sidi Ould of Mauritania has been elected as the ninth president of the African Development Bank having secured 76.18% of the vote in the second round.

Zambia’s Dr Sam Maimbo, who was backed by SADC came second with 20.26% of the vote.

Dr Ould takes over from Dr Akinumwi Adesina of Nigeria who served his two five-year terms since 2015.

Dr Ould leveraged on his country’s diplomatic network bolstered by Mohamed Ould Ghazouani’s presidency of the African Union in 2024.
