REHABILITATION works at Kezi Aerodrome are gathering momentum as preparations intensify for this year’s national Independence Day celebrations to be hosted in Matobo District.

The Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA) is spearheading the upgrades, which form part of broader infrastructure development underway in the district ahead of the commemorations.

Maphisa is set to host the national event under the theme “Zim @46: Unity and Development Towards Vision 2030”, with authorities racing against time to complete key projects.

RIDA area roads manager Ignatius Musekiwa said progress at the aerodrome remains on schedule.

“We are right on track. Our runway works are going on well, we are expanding the aerodrome and we are very optimistic that by the first two weeks of March we will be done. Only gravelling is outstanding,” he said.

Officials say the aerodrome upgrade is critical to improving accessibility and supporting logistical arrangements for the national celebrations.

Matobo District is experiencing heightened activity as various infrastructure projects are finalised ahead of the event, which draws thousands of people from across the country.
