MANICA Diamonds are in Chiredzi for a pre-season training camp as they step up preparations for the new campaign.

With the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League set to kick off next month, the Mutare-based side is using the pre-season camp to shape a competitive unit capable of improving on last season’s performance, where they escaped relegation by a whisker.

Players have responded positively to the demands of pre-season, showing commitment and belief as they set their sights on a more successful campaign.

“I am here to add value to Manica Diamonds and I promise positive results to the supporters and management who have shown trust in me,” Manica Diamonds’ midfielder, Polyester Shoko said.

“We are working hard for a better season and we are focusing on teamwork to improve our overall performance,” striker Fortune Binzi stated.

Head coach Tafadzwa Mashiri said the technical team is putting in extra work to assemble a competitive side.

“Chiredzi feels like a second home. We have had successful camps here before, so we are confident again. The conditions are ideal for fitness and endurance. This season is about rebuilding, and while we may not have big names, the players we have brought in will allow us to compete and finish in a respectable position.”

Manica Diamonds have also strengthened their squad, securing the services of former Highlanders defender Arthur Ndlovu, alongside highly-rated forward Nokutenda Mangezi, who previously had a stint with South African side SuperSport United, among other additions.
