CAPS United will head into the international break as the early pace-setters in the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season after winning their opening four matches.
The impressive run has drawn comparisons with the club’s 2004 title-winning campaign, when Makepekepe enjoyed a similarly strong start.
After years of inconsistency, CAPS United are not only winning, but sending a clear signal to the rest of the league that they could be genuine title contenders this season.
Their four-match winning streak has propelled the Green Machine into early pole position, underpinned by a balanced squad blending youth, energy and experience.
The latest victory, a composed 2-0 win over new boys Hardrock, further highlighted their growing confidence and control, marking their strongest start to a league campaign in 22 years.
Head coach Takesure Chiragwi, a member of the club’s golden generation that won back-to-back titles in 2004 and 2005, is now leading a promising new chapter from the dugout.
Despite the perfect start, Chiragwi has urged caution.
“We enjoy the moment and move on, it is only but the start of the season. We have seen many clubs start well but fall by the wayside, so we need to be extra careful and continue to work hard.”
Historically, the current run surpasses their title-winning starts in both 2005 and 2016, underlining the scale of their early-season dominance.
The resurgence has been driven by attacking fluency and midfield balance, with Ishmael Wadi sharp in front of goal, Bret Amidu providing creativity, and Richard Hachiro adding steel and control.
Elsewhere, defending champions Scottland are beginning to find form, climbing to second place after a 3-0 victory over FC Hunters.
Traditional rivals Dynamos are also showing signs of resurgence, sitting on eight points alongside former champions Simba Bhora and Ngezi Platinum Stars, keeping pressure on the early pace-setters.
While CAPS United have set the early tempo, the title race remains open, with several teams capable of mounting a sustained challenge as the season unfolds.
For now, the Green Machine lead the charge, but maintaining consistency will be key if their electric start is to translate into a championship-winning campaign.
