POLICE in Kezi, Matabeleland South Province, have launched a manhunt for a machete-wielding gang that killed a man who was assisting a stranded couple whose vehicle was stuck on Monday night.

Residents of Mafuyana township in Maphisa were left in shock following the brutal killing. It is alleged that the Good Samaritan, Chelesani Moyo, found a couple, Tinashe Ngwenya and Nomagugu Ncube, struggling to start their vehicle at Mafuyane shops and offered to push it.

During the time Moyo was pushing the vehicle, three unknown men reportedly emerged from the dark and struck him on the head with a machete. Moyo tried to flee but collapsed after running about 100 metres. When the couple attempted to intervene, they too were attacked by the assailants.

Moyo’s body was discovered the following morning, and police have since intensified efforts to apprehend the suspects.

Matabeleland South police spokesperson, Inspector Chiratidzo Dube, confirmed the incident.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, police in Makhado, Beitbridge, arrested two men, Tinashe Chivende and Emmanuel Runesu, after they were allegedly found in possession of dagga weighing over 300 kilogrammes.
