Last minute shopping and jostling for transport to get to various destinations, including rural homes, characterised Christmas Eve across the country this Tuesday.
After a long year and preparations, all the effort has culminated in people around Bulawayo and beyond laying the icing on the cake with last minute preparations and travel arrangements ahead of festivities on Christmas this Wednesday.
Bulawayo’s long distance bus terminus, popularly known as Renkini, was a hive of activity with passengers more than ready to go to their rural homes for the festivities.
“I am coming from South Africa and I am so excited to be going home after a long time and I am so going to enjoy with my family and friends,” a traveler said.
“I have prepared more than enough for this trip and all is set for Christmas. My grocery is on the bus and I can just imagine my family running towards me when I get off from the bus,” another said.
“This is such an exciting time for me because I am going to see my children and my parents that I haven’t seen in a long time, this is really a merry time for me,” added another.
For many, Christmas is a time to meet and reconnect with relatives and friends and a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
“Christmas means a lot to me and my family because we get to celebrate the birth of Jesus and I am more than ready to even cook up a storm to celebrate,” noted a resident.
“As you can see, I just got out of the shop to get the last bit of things I need. My grandchildren are coming and I am going to cook for hem and we enjoy this wonderful day,” said another resident.
The festive season is always characterised by spending time as families, unwinding and capping off the year with merry-making.
