Labour practitioners push for productivity boost to meet growth target

ZIMBABWE’s labour sector is intensifying engagements with the government and business community to implement measures that will support the achievement of a 6% economic growth target for 2025.

The importance of productivity was highlighted at the launch of the Association for Labour Practitioners of Zimbabwe in Harare this Wednesday, where stakeholders emphasised the need for collective policy efforts to sustain the country’s economic momentum.

“This launch is coming at a time when as an association, we are also looking into issues related to economic growth including embracing stability in the economy. It becomes imperative to further look at other workable strategies to keep the economy moving forward,” the Association for Labour Practitioners in Zimbabwe’s secretary Ms Patience Kavuru said.

Labour law practitioners also explained the importance of engagements with government and business.

“The unveiling of this new unit is important as it reflects the commitment by the labour in working towards increased output. In the long term, it is everyone that stands to benefit from such opportunities. The gathering today bears testimony on how labour institutions are willing to see the six percent growth target being a reality,” legal practitioner, Mr Caleb Mucheche said.

“The labour community is always pivotal to the overall growth of the economy riding on the need to maximise productivity. So going forward, it is imperative to continue focusing on those opportunities so that industry and commerce can thrive while also helping the government with relevant solutions,” another legal practitioner, Mr Selby Hwacha said.

Zimbabwe under the umbrella of the Tripartite Negotiating Forum has reaffirmed continuous dialogue to boost productivity.
