Karoi teen’s CAF U-15 experience fuels big football dreams

FOURTEEN-Year old Karoi-based centre-back Elvis Chisango is dreaming big after proudly representing Zimbabwe at the CAF Under-15 Schools Championship in South Africa last month.

The young and determined defender expressed his excitement about the experience, saying it has inspired him to aim higher in his football career.

A product of Rydings College in Karoi, his talent was nurtured on local pitches before catching the eye of scouts.

His steady rise has now taken him to Prince Edward High School in Harare, one of the country’s renowned football breeding grounds, where he continues to sharpen his defensive skills against top-level competition.

“I work hard every day because I know where I come from. Being called up to the Under-15 Warriors motivates me to do more and represent my country well. I draw a lot of inspiration from professional players in the top leagues, and how disciplined and consistent they are. Watching them pushes me to work harder every day, and my dream is to one day play in competitive leagues at the highest level and represent my country with pride,” Elvis Chisango said.

His message to fellow talented and aspiring footballers is simple talent knows no physical boundaries.

“I want to encourage other young players to pursue their talents and never feel limited by where they come from. I am from Karoi, but look at where I am today. Talent is everywhere, and local tournaments are necessary because they help expose and unlock hidden abilities. If you stay focused and take every opportunity, someone will notice you, no matter your location,” Chisango said.

The Zimbabwe Football Association’s grassroots initiatives are paying dividends. Recently, at the Under-17 COSAFA Youth Championships, players from Chipinge were also given the platform to showcase their talents.
