Injury robs Machope of AFCON dream

Story by Anashe Murombedzi

SCOTTLAND FC striker and Soccer Star of the Year finalist, Tymon Machope, is devastated to miss out on the Warriors Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad owing to an injury.

The 32-year-old forward had been nursing an injury that ultimately proved to be a significant obstacle, denying him the chance to don the Warriors jersey and showcase his skills on the continental stage.

The Warriors’ final 23-men squad is yet to be named, but Machope is likely to miss out.

With his age, this could have been his first and last AFCON appearance, and he is left to wonder what could have been.

“It is devastating, but I can not do much about it. I had been working hard, and I was hoping to make it to the final squad. Unfortunately, the injury had other plans. It is probably my last chance to represent my country at the AFCON, and it is painful to miss out.”

Despite his disappointment, Machope remains focused on the future, vowing to stay with Scottland FC, the 2025 PSL champions, and help the team secure another shot at the CAF Champions League.

“I will continue to work hard, stay positive, and support my teammates. Who knows, maybe next time.”

The second time 11-men Soccer Stars finalist’s experience, playing for topflight teams like Simba Bhora and Scottland had earned him a call-up to national duty, being part of the cast at the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and South Africa.

However, the injury has put his dreams on hold, and he will have to wait for another opportunity to represent his country with pride.
