INDIA has pledged its support for Zimbabwe’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2027-2028 term, reinforcing growing political and diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The commitment was announced in Harare this Monday during celebrations marking India’s 77th Republic Day, where India’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Shri Bramha Kumar, confirmed New Delhi’s backing of Zimbabwe’s candidature.
“We have enjoyed cordial relations with Zimbabwe hence our support for the UNSC bid, we will continue nurturing these relations for the good of the citizens,” Ambassador Kumar said.
Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira, welcomed the endorsement and confirmed that Zimbabwe will support India’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the UNSC for the 2028-2029 term.
“The 77th Republic Day of India is a symbol of sovereignty, democratic resilience and national progress. The mutual endorsement demonstrates shared values and common vision for global peace, security and multilateral cooperation, particularly among countries of the Global South.
India has pledged to support Zimbabwe’s bid for a non-permanent seat for the 2027-2028 term, while Zimbabwe will back India’s candidature for the 2028–2029 term,” Professor Murwira said.
