HILLSIDE Teachers College in Bulawayo has benefited from a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), which has enabled the institution to begin construction of a Beach Football facility.
The partnership is Hillside Teachers College, with Bulawayo City Council and Beach football has seen the construction of a facility at the institution of higher learning.
Bulawayo City Council held and indaba with stakeholders who urged the City fathers to engage more partners and tap on the low hanging fruits associated with running a sports economy.
The initiative has seen the city fathers taking on board synergies with sports associations for the construction of sporting facilities resulting in the start of works for the construction of a beach Football facility at Hillside.
“This is a tripartite arrangement between the city council, beach soccer and Hillside and all this practical work is coming from the engagement. The city council held an indaba in March where we agreed that the council stands to benefit from a sports economy. We then said as beach soccer we need facilities and Hillside gave us the land. We are happy that the city council has supplied us with sand , which was the higher cost and we will provide the equipment. We want similar facilities to be constructed across various learning institutions,” Beach soccer president, Mike Mandaza said.
Beach football Association is also making inroads in introducing the sport to schools.
